#3 – The Time Keeper by Mitch Albom

I JUST LOVE MITCH ALBOM.

This is definitely one of all his exceptional fictions. I guess I have nothing much to talk about it but here’s something from the book..

“Try to imagine a life without timekeeping. You probably can’t. You know the month, the year, the day of the week. There is a clock on your wall or the dashboard of your car. You have a schedule, a calendar, a time for dinner or a movie. Yet all around you, timekeeping is ignored. Birds are not late. A dog does not check its watch. Deer do not fret over passing birthdays. Man alone measures time. Man alone chimes the hour. And, because of this, man alone suffers a paralyzing fear that no other creature endures. A fear of time running out..”

So how does that sound to you? Mitch Albom has always been able to make me fall into deep thought about the simplest thing through his fiction and I love it because at least, sometimes, amidst all these big things in life, I would think about the little things and make my life better through them. Somehow, over time, my perspectives change as well. You know when they say “Membaca jambatan ilmu” (Reading is the bridge to knowledge, LOL direct translation but it makes sense alright), I don’t think it refers to merely academic stuff. I believe that reading, both pleasure and pressure (if there’s any lol), rewires your brain and makes you think differently each time.

Those lines are my favourite lines from the book because it is 126% on point. I always feel like I’m running out of time these days and it sucks. I feel like I’m not able to finish this, not able to do that and everything is just so fast-moving, I can’t catch up. The worst part is, in the end, I just want to give everything up. I have less than a month to finish my graduate studies and my stress level has gone through the roof. My menstrual cycle delayed, I was down with fever but I am still here and there with my husky voice, flu and cough. All these physiological signs signalling me to take a break but I just can’t okay. I’m short on time. Oh I just hope I can make it.

Whatever it is, I like the book. I enjoyed reading it and probably I’ll read it again. I don’t usually read books more than once but probably I will for this one.
